Puerto Querido

Comencé un nuevo Quilt.

I started a new Quilt.

Llevaba un tiempo con ganas  de hacer algo en colores sólidos…. Y viendo el libro «Quilting Modern» de Jackie Gering y Katie Pedersen, encontré un quilt hermoso que quise hacer.

I wore a while wanting to do something in solid colors …. And seeing the book «Modern Quilting» Jackie Gering and Katie Pedersen, I found a beautiful quilt that inspired me

Me basé e inspiré en el proyecto «Tipsy City Quilt» (pag. 164) para hacer mi quilt, pero la realidad es que lo hice pensando en mi querido Valparaíso ( mi ciudad natal) y por lo que le puse de nombre «Puerto Querido», como dice la canción la Joya del Pácifico  «yo me alejé de ti Puerto Querido»…y bastante me alejé….

I relied on the «Tipsy City Quilt» (p. 164) to make my quilt, the reality is that I did thinking about my hometown Valparaiso.

Como se explica en el libro, uno comienza armando las «torres» de casas.

As explained in the book, you start doing the «towers» of houses.

Yo hice 4 torres. Una vez que las presenté en la pared, decidí qué colores intercalar entre cada uno. Elegí colores que hicieran la idea del cielo y del sol al atardecer entre las casas y cerros.

I did 4 towers. Once I presented on the wall, I decided what colors interspersed between each. I chose colors that make the idea of ​​sky and sun at sunset among the houses and hills.

Una vez que ya tuve todas las columnas definidas, comienza el corte de las suaves curvas. Para esto se coloca una pieza sobre otra, las dos con el frente hacia arriba.

Once I had all the columns,  I start cutting soft curves. For this, a piece is placed over another, the two with the front facing up.

Y sobre ellas a mano libre, se hace el corte, para luego coserlas.

Así con cada columna. Algunas uniones las dejé rectas para dar otro efecto.

And on them, you can cut freehand and then sew.

Thus each column. Some joints can be left straight to give another effect.

Después se agregan los lados y la parte inferior. Para esto elegí un color gris oscuro…. Que me hace pensar en el cemento…. Y que resalta el color de los cerros y casas.

After the sides and the bottom are added. For this I chose a dark gray …. That makes me think of the cement …. And that highlights the color of the hills and houses.

Y qué significa eso? Que tengo que elegir un par de telas (creo que la colección Wee Wander es mi favorita) de las hermosas telas que tienen en su tienda y que me llegarán de premio a Argentina!

I share this last picture on the  Mad About Patchwork ´s group on Flickr (a great Canadian online store of fabrics, books, patterns and supplies for patchwork), and to my surprise and happiness  I ‘m the winner of the week!

And what does that mean? I have to choose a pair of fabrics (think Wee Wander collection is my favorite) among the beautiful fabrics they have in their store!!
